These are courses designed for the complete beginner through to the more advanced filmmaker. It is through the eye of the camera that we hope to generate awareness about the serious environmental issues affecting our planet as well as general marine ecology. On top of that, we have fun. We enjoy our wildlife and take time to explore how best to capture it on camera.
All students for these underwater courses must have a minimum of an Open Water Scuba Dive Qualification
TYPES OF COURSE
* Whether you are a complete beginner or a semi-pro, I will design a course that covers your requirements.
* The full 5 day courses will take you through the entire process of making an underwater wildlife film so that each student will complete a 3 minute video DVD, shot, edited and narrated by themselves.
* Special GoPro courses.
*There are 1 & 2 day special short taster courses where students can concentrate on any particular aspect of filmmaking. Camera work, editing, scripting..... you decide. Contact us for details.
Great footage can easily be ruined by bad editing. The standard 5 day course is a combination of knowing your camera, researching your subject, choosing a location, creating a story and taking good video while at the same time being aware of how everything will come together in the edit.
Cameras: Students will need their own underwater camera/housing, although sharing with a friend is an option.
Digital Compact Cameras up to High End Professional. You don't need expensive cameras to make good underwater videos.
Lights: Lighting although not essential, is extremely important. One light is ample.
If you are thinking of purchasing cameras or lights, then I do contact us for advice.
Editing: If you are considering the edit option as well, then there are many video editing software packages on the market. If you are new to this, I would highly recommend looking at Adobe Premiere Elements. It is cheap, very versatile and easy to understand. You will need your own laptop.
Jeff's book 'A Guide to Underwater Wildlife Video & Editing' is costed into the courses and sent out to students prior to the course start dates.
Foreward by BBC TV presenter Miranda Krestovnikof. The book covers all the information discussed on the courses and prepares students for making the most of their time while on location
If you have a group of 5 people or more then we can arrange special dates for you through out the year. Due to financial viability there is a minimum of 5 and for practicality a maximum of 10 students per workshop / course.
Private workshops can be arranged by quotation for individuals or smaller groups on request.
